Position Summary:

NFF’s Consulting (Advisory Services) practice is seeking a full-time Business Development Analyst. This position reports to the Associate Director of Business Development. 

The Analyst will support the Advisory Services Business Development (ASBD) team, providing day-to-day database management, performance management analytics and periodic dashboard performance reports necessary to guide, monitor and assess progress towards Business Development goals, as well as broader strategic goals for the Advisory Services practice. The Analyst will also manage the Business Development section of the Advisory Services knowledge wiki, providing active curation of Advisory Services resources and content. In order to provide the most effective support for the Business Development team as well as the Advisory Services team at large, the Analyst will be expected to be conversant with the full range of NFF’s service offerings; to manage a substantial portfolio of work, while ensuring quality of interactions and deliverables; and to effectively communicate key NFF messages, verbal and written, to internal audiences. 

Analysts at NFF are expected to show initiative. They are problem solvers with a strong work ethic, exceptional interpersonal and analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and have the ability to balance multiple projects on tight schedules. NFF’s success relies upon its ability to operate as a “matrix” organization—organized both by geography and teams. As such, the Analyst will need to exercise judgment and flexibility in working both within and across the diverse markets and business units in that matrix. 

This position will be based in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles or Oakland.

 Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  •   Maintain data, analytics, and reporting systems, and work with Advisory Services team members to ensure data is accurate and up-to-date.
  •   Support the ASBD Senior Associate with the data capture, aggregation, and analysis necessary for managing the ASBD practice.
  •   Support the ASBD team by maintaining the schedule of proposals, reports, presentations, and other materials due.
  •   Support continued upgrades to ASBD systems, as well as internal projects to strengthen the business development function.
  •   Actively curate and maintain an accessible and up-to-date repository of ASBD materials (concept papers, proposals, RFP responses, and stock descriptions of NFF’s services and approach), for use by Advisory Services team members engaged in business development activities.
  •   Support the ASBD and broader Advisory Services team by drafting concept papers, presentations and other business development documents as needed and requested.
  •   Perform research as directed by other members of the ASBD team to support prospecting.
  •   Field incoming calls requesting general information about NFF's services, including screening calls, taking messages, directing calls to staff members as appropriate, and assisting in prioritizing call returns.
  •  Support the ASBD Senior Associate in scheduling and coordinating business development meetings; compiling and sharing minutes; and supporting team follow-up and next steps.
  •   Support the ASBD Senior Associate in coordinating and aligning ASBD activities with the work of the Advisory Services Operations and NFF Finance & Administration groups.
  •  Perform other duties as needed.

Essential Requirements for Education and/or Experience:

  •   Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •  Commitment to developing Salesforce proficiency and expertise.
  •   Exceptional commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
  •   Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  •   Aptitude for time management, with an ability to set work priorities among competing needs. Comfortable working under deadlines.Aptitude for designing structures and approaches for managing uncertainty and ambiguity.
  •  Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills, including technical and interpretive writing. Strong ability to organize, synthesize, and present complex information in an accessible manner.  
  • Excellent analytical skills and comfort with using data for decision making.
  •  Professional maturity and ability to build relationships with colleagues, clients, funders, board members and leaders in the field in a way that is consistent with NFF Values.
  •  High levels of both self-confidence and humility, with an ability to improve performance based on received feedback.
  •  Self-starter with the ability to work independently, as well as collaborate with a close-knit group of professionals.
  • Flexible, curious, creative, enthusiastic, with a sense of humor.

Specialized Knowledge/Beneficial Skills and Experience:

  •  Professional exposure to the nonprofit sector.

  •   Experience with CRM systems, preferably Salesforce.

  •  Interest and ability to travel nationally, year round.

  •   Demonstrated interest and commitment to developing expertise in a broad range of social issues on which NFF works, including Pay for Success programs, health care policy, and issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
