Position Summary:

The Nonprofit Finance Fund seeks a Senior Associate with health sector experience to join our growing Financial Services team. This position is based in Oakland, California and reports to the Vice President, Strategic Initiatives. The Senior Associate will focus on business development to support the expansion of NFF’s health-related financing activities in California, These investments include: on- and off-balance sheet loans, New Markets Tax Credit projects and tailored capital investments developed with our funding partners.

The ideal candidate will have financial analysis/credit experience, as well as demonstrated ability to develop and leverage professional networks in the health and/or human services sectors. The Senior Associate must represent the organization well in a client-facing capacity, and be equally responsive to and effective as an integral member of a national team with whom s/he interacts regularly. This position will require working across functional and departmental boundaries to meet the shared business goals of the Financial Services practice.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent NFF as various events including conferences, panels, funder meetings and with partners and clients.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with market stakeholders including potential borrowers, health and human service sector leaders, funders and others.
  • Identify and assess the eligibility and viability of lending opportunities.
  • Analyze financial statements of prospective clients to determine investment readiness; assist with initial due diligence and transaction structuring.
  • Prepare initial investment summaries for presentation to credit committee.
  • Stay informed of relevant policy, state and federal budget and general industry trends and changes. 
  • Support efforts to research, identify, and develop new opportunities to meet market needs and achieve business goals.
  • Manage pipeline and information databases (e.g. Salesforce) in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the flow of relevant client- market- and sector-specific information to inform underwriting, and portfolio management.
  • Assist Underwriters and Portfolio Managers on an as-needed basis in analysis of transactions and borrowers, management of closed transactions and overall communication with applicants, borrowers, and partners to ensure seamless and high quality client service.

Essential Requirements for Education and/or Experience:

  •   Bachelor’s degree required; Masters degree in a relevant field preferred (e.g. MPH, MPA, MBA.)
  •   Minimum of five years work experience;
  •   Minimum of  two years relevant experience highly valued E.g. work in Community Benefits for a health system; financing healthcare organizations for a foundation, CDFI or bank, or experience as a Budget or Financial Analyst for a community health center.
  •  Demonstrated competency in financial and investment analysis.
  •   Excellent written and oral communications.
  •   Effective in project- and time-management.
  •   Attention to detail is essential, as is the ability to prioritize among competing responsibilities.
  •   Flexibility, creativity, patience and a sense of humor are highly prized qualities.
  •   Willingness to travel (25%) and meet with existing and prospective clients.
  •   Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Salesforce and Outlook.

Specialized Knowledge/Beneficial Skills and Experience:

  •   Lending/underwriting experience.
  •   Knowledge of health care reform legislation and policy.
  •   Network of relationships in CA healthcare sector.
